Would you like some pot with your asparagus?
The two types of plants—marijuana and asparagus—were packed together in a shipment from California to a Massachusetts Stop & Shop, according to the Freetown Police Department.
Freetown Police Chief Carlton Abbott announced the seizure of 30 pounds of marijuana found on the truck on Friday.
SouthCoastToday.com reported that the truck driver did not know about the weed.
"She [the truck driver] picked up the truck and drove it from Point A to Point B, and made several stops along the way," Abbott told SouthCoastToday.com. "We've been called before to the Stop & Shop facility for similar discoveries."
Freetown police said they got the call just before noon on Friday when the security staff at the store discovered the drug. Local police, along with a State Police K-9 team, swept the supermarket and seized the marijuana, which is being held as evidence.
WCVB reported that the truck load of asparagus came from a Lodi, Calif., distributor.
"At this time, we don't believe the Stop Shop facility was involved in this," WCVB quoted Abbott saying. "Stop & Shop has always been cooperative. They've been a good business neighbor."
The investigation is ongoing.
