While watching the Boston Marathon in Newton, a woman fell 18 feet from her second-floor balcony after a railing broke, authorities told the Globe. She was quickly taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, but her condition is uncertain.

The woman was watching the race from her balcony on Commonwealth Avenue in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood at about 2 p.m. when the railing she was leaning on collapsed, said Newton Assistant Fire Chief Paul Chagnon ... The balcony overlooks the Marathon track, but she did not fall on to the roadway, Chagnon said.
