The State Police bomb squad detonated a pipe bomb in a Worcester neighborhood on Friday afternoon, according to media reports.
Police were in the Barclay Street area Friday morning after neighbors heard gunshots overnight, the Telegram & Gazette reported.
Officials, using a robot, were focused on an item found on an SUV by the vehicle’s owner and evacuated the area.
WHDH reported that the state fire marshal said the object was a pipe bomb and it had been rendered safe.
According to a Telegram.com reporter, officials detonated the pipe bomb, which was live and would have exploded if the fuse was lit, just after noon.
