The MBTA Transit Police believe a registered sex offender indecently assaulted a woman at Harvard Square station in March. On Friday, officers arrested Gilbert Farley, 57, of Boston and charged him with indecent assault and battery. The arrest came on the heels of a month-long investigation, according to a statement released on the Transit Police blog.

Police said the incident occurred March 27 as a woman exited a Red Line train at Harvard Square:

[W]hile she (victim) and her two female companions were traveling on a northbound Red Line train they noticed a male, who was seated directly across from them, looking at them in a perverse manner. The offending male then began to make suggestive comments relative to their bodies. As the train pulled into Harvard Sq. MBTA station and the victim was exiting the train the offending male came from behind the victim and indecently assaulted her. The offending male then fled the station.
