Raynham Man Killed By Alleged Speeding Drunk Driver

A 23-year-old Norton man is behind bars after allegedly killing a 63-year-old Raynham man by drunkenly speeding through a red light late Friday night in Mansfield.

Nicholas G. Salvo, 23, was held on $10,000 bail early Saturday morning and faces charges of motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence and reckless operation, speeding, failing to stop for a red light and a marked lanes violation.

He is due in Attleboro District Court on Monday.

Salvo was reportedly traveling southbound on Route 140 at a high rate of speed when he allegedly hit a car traveling in the opposite direction as it turned onto Norfolk Street.

The victim was pulled from the vehicle by Mansfield Firefighters and transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released pending notification of his next-of-kin.

Salvo was also taken to the hospital for injuries, but was released into police custody later that morning.

No other passengers were in the vehicles, police said.
