Flames and heavy smoke were coming through the roof of a track kitchen at Suffolk Downs in Revere as crews worked to extinguish a three-alarm blaze.
The fire broke out at after 5 p.m. on Tuesday evening and escalated from two alarms to three. While some horses needed to be evacuated from nearby stables due to heavy smoke, the affected building did not house animals and officials said there were no injuries to horses or people, WCVB reported.
The fire was under control after two hours, but the building was severely damaged. Investigators do not believe the blaze to be suspicious, CBS Boston reported.
The Suffolk Downs racing season is scheduled to open this Saturday, and track officials said the they intend to open as planned.
