Officials at the Downtown Crossing MBTA station gave the all clear after the area was evacuated Wednesday morning due to a bomb threat.

The Boston Globe reported that a suspicious package left on a northbound Orange Line platform “did not post a hazard,” according to MBTA officials.

The package had been left there by a man at 8:40 a.m, WCVB reported, forcing an immediate evacuation of the station and some nearby stores. Images from the scene showed a heavy police presence.

T spokesman Joseph Pesaturo said in a statement to Boston.com that transit police located the man who left the box and took him into custody. He is being transported to Mass General Hospital for a mental health evaluation.

After the threat caused serious transit delays for morning commuters, the MBTA tweeted that regular service would be restored for all lines.
