One person is dead and five others are hurt after authorities say a six-car pileup on Route 495 South was caused by a vehicle driving the wrong way on Sunday night.
Police were already responding to reports of a vehicle driving the wrong direction when the accident occurred around 9:30 p.m., the Boston Globe reported.
A Facebook post from the Plainville police department just before 10 p.m. indicated that a “wrong way vehicle” had caused the accident and forced officials to close down all southbound lanes between exits 14 and 13.
Massachusetts State Police were also on the scene and recommended avoiding the area.
Officials have not released any of the victims’ identities, and they have not given any indication who was at fault.
Victims were transported to either Rhode Island Hospital or Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, CBS Boston reported.
