Leslie Schuler, a man who pleaded guilty to the 2009 beating death of his 7-year-old son, committed suicide in prison today.

The Worcester Telegram & Gazette reported that the 41-year-old took his own life while at Walpole state prison.

He pleaded guilty to a second-degree murder charge in his son’s death and received a life sentence earlier this month. His sentence included the possibility of parole after 15 years.

Police said Schuler attacked his son, Nathaniel Turner, on Father’s Day five years ago. Turner was hospitalized for two days before he died.
