A 25-year-old woman was attacked early this morning while she was walking on the Esplanade, Massachusetts State Police said.

The woman was walking on the lagoon area of the Esplanade at about 2:50 a.m. when a man pushed her to the ground. Several passersby came to help her and the man ran away.

The suspect is being described as a bald white or Hispanic male that is about 5’7” to 5’8” tall.

The victim was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for minor injuries caused by her being knocked to the ground.

State Police said the description of the suspect in this case is different from the description of the suspect in a series of unsolved assaults on the Esplanade and in South Boston in 2006, 2007, and 2009. The suspect in those cases was described as a 5’8″ to 5’10″ tall African-American male with a medium to large build.

Massachusetts State Police and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office are investigating this morning’s attack. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to call State Police at 617-727-6780.
