Weymouth native, ex-drug trafficker, and Hollywood inspiration George Jung was released from prison on Monday after nearly 20 years behind bars.

TMZ reported that, despite being set for a November release from FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, the 71-year-old was let out early and is being sent to a transitional facility in California.

Jung was the inspiration for the movie “Blow,” in which Johnny Depp played a cocaine kingpin in the 1970’s and 80’s. According to TMZ, the film made Jung famous as the trafficker “responsible for roughly 89% of the cocaine smuggled into the country” during that era.
