A mutilated body discovered near a beach in Sandwich, Massachusetts has left police searching for an additional crime scene and asking for the public’s help.

The Barnstable County District Attorney’s Office announced that someone passing near the Town Neck Beach around 8 p.m. on June 4 saw “something that caused the person to call Sandwich Police.”

There are unconfirmed reports that a body was found inside a duffle bag near the Sandwich boardwalk in Sandwich, Massachusetts Wednesday (06-05-14) evening. State Police along with local police were at the scene for over 12 hours investigating the discovery. (Photos by David G. Curran)

That “something” was determined to be a mutilated body that was dumped near the beach. District Attorney Michael O’Keefe said local and state police were both assigned to the scene to process evidence throughout the night.

O’Keefe also said that officials are trying to determine the location of an “as yet unknown primary scene.” Investigators are asking that anyone who noticed suspicious behavior in the area between June 2 and June 4 to come forward.
