A Chelsea man was arraigned in district court Monday in the beating of a 29-year-old woman that left her in critical condition on Sunday.
The woman was found on the sidewalk on Chestnut Street in Chelsea with severe forehead lacerations. She was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital Sunday and is in critical condition, WCVB reported.
Manuel Marroquin, 26, was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Prosectors said Marroquin allegedly beat the woman with a pipe and carried her outside. Police said Marroquin and victim knew each other and they do not consider the attack to be random.
According to WCVB, Marroquin says the woman tried to rob him. The judge has set bail for Marroquin at $100,000.
