Carver Police told The Boston Globe that a Wareham woman was arrested Saturday night when she failed a field sobriety test after they found her and two children asleep in a running car. She faces drunk driving and child endangerment charges.
The woman was found asleep at the wheel after a caller reported that a 2002 Mercury Sable was pulling in and out of a driveway on Tremont Street in Carver, Mass. The Globe reported:
Police said they found Jennifer Bangs, 40, asleep in the driver’s seat with the car’s headlights and engine on. Officers woke her up after a few tries and gave her a field sobriety test, which police said she failed. Police charged Bangs with operating under the influence of alcohol and two counts of child endangerment.
The Globe also reported that the children found sleeping in the car were handed over to a relative and that the state Department of Children and Families was notified. Whether or not they are related to Bangs remains unclear.
Bangs is expected to be arraigned in Wareham District Court on Monday.
