A female fifth-grade teacher at East Somerville Community School was charged with the rape and indecent assault of a 13-year-old with whom she is accused of having had a sexual relationship, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office.
Alexandra Romanos, 41, faces five charges related to the alleged relationship: two counts of aggravated rape of a child and three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14. She has pleaded not guilty and is being held on $50,000 bail. Romanos had been teaching for seven years at the Somerville school. She has been placed on administrative leave.
The charges were brought after a parent tipped off police to the alleged relationship at the end of June. The relationship had allegedly begun in March and “had occurred both on and off school grounds,” according to CBS Boston.
“We are repulsed and angry that someone who made an oath to uphold the highest moral standards in the execution of her responsibilities as a teacher and a role model has allegedly blatantly violated that trust,” Somerville Public Schools said in a statement to CBS.
