One person was killed and ten others were hospitalized in a reported hazardous material incident this morning at Manomet Elementary School in Plymouth, according to multiple media outlets.
The Boston Globe reports the wife of the school’s head custodian confirmed that authorities say her husband has died. Two police officers were also reportedly among those taken from the school to a nearby hospital.
According to WCVB the victims who were hospitalized include “nine public safety employees and one other school employee.” All were suffering minor symptoms of eye and throat irritation, but most have been treated and released already.
CBS Boston reported that that investigators are looking into whether the incident is tied to work being done at the school. The report added that the Fire Marshal’s office said the “levels of chemicals in the building are very low.”
