FBI: Friends Agreed to Throw Away Potential Evidence in Tsarnaev’s Dorm Room

Two friends of suspected Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev discussed and agreed to throw away the backpack at the centerpiece of Azamat Tazhayakov’s trial, according to FBI testimony in the case. The decision was made after the pair learned older bombing suspect brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev was killed during a shootout with police, according to testimony given Tuesday by FBI agent Sarah Wood.

The Boston Globe reports:

Wood testified that through their questioning of Tazhayakov and another Tsarnaev friend, Dias Kadyrbayev, investigators learned that the two men went to Tsarnaev’s UMass Dartmouth dorm room, where they found a backpack with fireworks that apparently had been emptied of gunpowder. The friends then huddled on what their next step would be.

Kadyrbayev was pacing the room when he allegedly said that he believed they should throw out the backpack and the fireworks, an idea that Tazhayakov agreed with, Wood testified.
