The cousin of former Patriots player Aaron Hernandez is due in court today for a status hearing on charges brought against her for refusing speak to law enforcement officials about details surrounding the 2012 double homicide outside a night club in Boston’s South End.
Tanya Singleton was indicted in June after prosecutors said she refused to answer questions and turned down an offer of immunity. Prosecutors said a Toyota 4Runner found in Singleton’s Connecticut home garage was the getaway vehicle used in the 2012 night club shootings. A plea deal may be announced at today’s hearing, WHDH reports.
Hernandez is facing multiple murder charges in two separate homicide cases. On May 15, 2014, prosecutors announced that Hernandez had been indicted on murder charges in a 2012 double homicide in the South End. He is already awaiting trial in the 2013 shooting death of Odin Lloyd, whose body was found in North Attleborough not far from Hernandez’s home.
Singleton is facing similar contempt charges in the Lloyd murder case after refusing to testify before a grand jury. Prosecutors say Singleton helped Hernandez’s associates, Ernest Wallace and Carlos Ortiz leave the state after the murder.Lara can be reached at email@example.com. Follow Lara on Twitter: @BostonLara
