Daughter of Outspoken Sheriff Arrested After New Bedford Nightclub Shooting

The daughter of Bristol County Sheriff Thomas M. Hodgson has been charged with intimidating a witness following Saturday’s early morning shooting outside of Jalice Cafe in New Bedford, according to multiple reports.

Michelle L. Hodgson, 29, of New Bedford, was arrested shortly after the shootings that left seven people with non life threatening injuries, reported South Coast Today.

Although the nature of Ms. Hodgson’s charge is unclear at this time, Sheriff Hodgson told South Coast Today that his daughter “had an encounter with police” when she saw authorities responding to the shooting.

Sheriff Hodgson said he believes his daughter is innocent of the charges, but added that “As a dad it’s upsetting to me that it happened at all.”

New Bedford’s Licensing Board is expected to hold a hearing on Wednesday to determine the fate of Jalice Cafe.

Sheriff Hodgson, who is in charge of the jail where former Patriots star Aaron Hernandez was previously being held, has been a mainstay in local news for everything from calling Gov. Deval Patrick’s stance on immigration “moronic” to forbidding Hernandez from getting married in his jail.

Last month, Sheriff Hodgson traveled to Texas for an up close and personal look at illegal immigration as a reference point for what to expect when unaccompanied migrant minors are brought to the Bay State, telling CBS Boston that “We now have a whole re-definition of what a border state is.”
