A Weymouth man was arrested this week and charged with stealing a truck—his own truck.
Dustin Blinn, 33, allegedly dropped off his black Chevy Silverado at Best Chevrolet in Hingham for $1,400 of repairs last Monday. Instead of paying for the repair work, police say, Blinn simply went back after hours and drove his truck away.
According to The Patriot Ledger, Best Chevrolet’s security footage shows Blinn cutting a lock on the dealership’s front gate, entering the lot, and then driving away in the truck with the headlights off. After learning Blinn owned the allegedly stolen vehicle, police said they arrived at his home to find the truck in the driveway.
Blinn allegedly told police that he picked up his truck from the dealership—which he said was supposed to leave it for him outside the fence—but did not admit to cutting the lock.
Blinn was arrested and charged with malicious destruction of property, trespassing, and larceny over $250. He is due back in court on October 2.
The Patriot Ledger reports that Blinn owns his own fence business. There is a Facebook page for a Dustin Blinn who resembles the police photo of Blinn. The page has several photos of a black Chevy Silverado pick-up truck with a “Blinn’s Fence Inc.” logo on the side, and gave Blinn’s Fence Inc. a five star review about eight months ago. He gave Best Chevrolet a five-star review around the same time.
The page also has a photo is of the dashboard of a car with the speedometer on 150 mph. A woman asked Blinn when he got a sports car.
“I never did, I stole it!” Blinn replied.
