Two brothers were in Hingham District Court on Monday after they were involved in a melee at a wedding reception at the Nantasket Beach Resort on Friday.
The Patriot Ledger reported that Joseph Truglia, the groom at the wedding, faced an assault and battery charge, and his brother and best man, Patrick Truglia, was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and destruction of property worth more than $250.
According to the report, the charges stem from an incident that started when a police officer working security at the reception found Patrick Truglia in a room with a shattered glass table that appeared to have been thrown on its side.
The best man then left the reception for a brief time before returning to scream at other wedding guests and getting into a physical altercation with at least one guest. At that point, according to the report, police restrained Patrick Truglia then placed him under arrest after he resisted.
Joseph Truglia, the groom, was upset with the arrest and reportedly became “enraged” and “hostile.” Officers threatened to use pepper spray and ultimately asked guests to leave as they shut the party down.
At that time, according to the report, the bride’s mother told police that Joseph Truglia was slapping the bride. The Ledger reported that the bride told officers the groom had hit her but that she didn’t want him arrested. The report added that police said they noticed a red mark on the bride’s left cheek.
Both brothers were released and are set to appear in court again on September 19.
