Everett Mayor Facing Sexual Harassment Accusations

Everett, MA - 05/27/14 - Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria during a special meeting of the City Council and School Committee at Everett City Hall. DeMaria has a history of bending over backward to help the land owners who want to sell their land to Steve Wynn for a $1.6 billion casino, two of them convicted felons with long criminal records. DeMaria's efforts to help Charles Lightbody, who has served time for assault, and Gary DeCicco, a long suspected arsonist, has caught the attention of the FBI, which is asking whether DeMaria has secret business dealings with Lightbody. The controversy surrounding DeMaria and the land owners threatens to derail Steve Wynn's plan to bring casino gambling to Massachusetts - (Barry Chin/Globe Staff), Section: Metro, Reporter: Murphy-Estes/Allen, Topic: 01Everett, LOID: 7.3.3334211428.

At least four women have alleged that Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria sexually harassed them over the past decade, according to a report in The Boston Globe.

One woman, the mother of a soldier serving in Iraq, said she was groped by DeMaria when she went his office in 2008 to ask for help starting a program assisting military families, the Globe reported.

In addition to the soldier’s mother, the mayor’s accusers are two employees at doughnut shops owned by DeMaria, and a city employee who abruptly resigned in 2012 after she said DeMaria asked her for oral sex.

The Globe reported that DeMaria denies he harassed any of the women.
