The 9-year-old girl who was pulled from the bottom of a Cape Cod motel pool with her 12-year-old sister last week has died.
The girls, who have not been named, were from New York. They were vacationing at Yarmouth’s Bayside Resort and were pulled from its swimming pool on August 20 around 7:30 p.m. There was no lifeguard at the motel’s pool at the time, nor was there a staff member on duty trained in CPR, the Cape Cod Times said.
The girls were not breathing when they were taken out of the pool, and guests did “untrained CPR” on them, the Cape Cod Times reported. They were taken to Cape Cod Hospital and then flown to Boston’s Children’s Hospital, listed in critical condition.
According to Yarmouth Police, the 9-year-old died “over the weekend.” Her sister is recovering at Children’s Hospital. The case is being investigated by the Massachusetts State Police and the Yarmouth Police Department.
