HINGHAM -- Edward P. Delaney, a retired official for the federal Securities and Exchange Commission, died April 7 at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. He was 79.
Mr. Delaney was born in Jamaica Plain. During World War II he served in the Navy, earning the rank of aviation radioman second class. He graduated from Boston University and later from the Boston University School of Law. For 30 years he worked as an assistant administrator and attorney for the Securities and Exchange Commission in Boston. He retired from the position in 1992 and worked for five years for Mutual Benefit, a Rhode Island brokerage. He was a member of the South Shore Country Club and the Thorney Lea Golf Course in Brockton. For several years he took art classes in Quincy. He also was an avid golfer and fisherman.
He leaves his wife, Florence (Marshall) of Hingham; a son, Michael E. of Vancouver, British Columbia; a daughter, Erin P. Walsh of Hingham; a sister, Theresa Campbell of Cohasset; and three grandchildren.
Evelyn F. Vincent, homemaker; at 83
BROCKTON -- Evelyn F. (Sweeney) Vincent, a homemaker, died April 7 in the Nichols House Nursing Home in Fairhaven. She was 83.
Mrs. Vincent was born, raised, and educated in Quincy. She was a member of the Hanover Senior Citizens and a volunteer at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. She lived in Hanover for more then 40 years before moving to Brockton two years ago.
She leaves two sons, Walter R. of Brockton and Steven W. of Chicopee; three daughters, Phyllis of West Springfield, Gail Dowd of Middleborough, and Martha L. Groppi of Plymouth; a brother, Earl Sweeney of Quincy; a sister, Mary Kormann of Braintree; and 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
George Whitcher, electrician; at 57
MARSHFIELD -- George H. Whitcher III, union member and electrical company owner, died April 6 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston after a brief illness. He was 57.
Mr. Whitcher was born, raised, and educated in Norwell. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the local 103 of IBEW and owned Whitcher Electrical Company in Marshfield. He was a member of the Masons Phoenix Lodge in Hanover and the Marshfield Lions Club. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling.
He leaves his wife, Carita (Carantion) of Marshfield; his mother, Martha A. (Castro) of Norwell; a son, George J. of Marshfield; two daughters, Christina Hoadley of Hanover and Catherine Ruggiero of Pembroke; three brothers, Roy A. and Karl A., both of California, and Mark E. of Marshfield; and a sister, Susan A. Sprada of Florida.
Robert D. Jones, salesman; at 54
PEMBROKE -- Robert D. Jones, a retired salesman, died April 6 at his home in Pembroke after a short illness. He was 54.
Mr. Jones was born, raised, and educated in Braintree. He graduated from Braintree High School, where he played football. He worked for many years as a salesman for the Boston Flower Exchange before retiring two years ago. For the past 26 years he lived in Pembroke.
He leaves three sons, Raymond J. Immonen of Carver and Scott K. and Kenny R., both of Pembroke; a daughter, Kimberly Ann of Pembroke; a brother, Richard of Colchester, Conn.; four sisters, Karen Morrison of Fall River, Marilyn Akley of Middleborough, Patty O'Leary of Pembroke, and Arlene Giddings of Plymouth; and two grandchildren.
