Curran new CEO of Boston Stock Exchange

BOSTON -- The Boston Stock Exchange appointed Mike Curran as chief executive officer Monday, completing the separation of its regulatory and business operations.

Kenneth Leibler, previously chairman and CEO, will remain chairman and be responsible for the regulatory function, strategic direction and Boston Options Exchange, a new electronic options market, the BSE announced.

Curran, previously chief operating officer, will oversee day-to-day operations of the exchange.

"This change arises from a recent review of the exchange's governance and we believe this will be increasingly recognized as the superior governance model," Leibler said in a statement.

Curran joined the exchange in 2001 as chief information officer and became COO last year.

In addition, the BSE announced that Edward Lesser has been promoted from chief financial officer to COO, reporting to Curran.
