Missing autistic boy found safe

A 15-year-old autistic boy from Millis, who has been missing for more than two days, has been found safe this afternoon.

It was the second time in recent weeks Andrew Grant had wandered away from the home of his grandparents. The first time in late August he was missing for six days before he was found in the same wooded area in Norfolk where he was located today.

That location is about two miles from where he lives.

Department of Social Services spokeswoman Denise Monteiro says the 15-year-old was badly dehydrated, but otherwise in "great shape."

Monteiro says a neighbor took the day off from work to look for Andrew armed with a cell phone and a bottle of water. He found the teen hiding behind a tree, not far from where he was found the last time.

The neighbor used the water to coax Andrew out from behind the tree while simultaneously using his phone to call police.

Interviewed by WBZ Radio News, Grant said police and social service workers have been discussing ways to keep track of the boy in the future should he wander away again.

Officials have been considering equipping him with an electronic tracking device which would pinpoint his location at all times.
