Police search for missing BU student

Youth's cellphone found in the Fenway

Police have called off their search for the day for a missing BU student.

Public safety officials had scoured the Fenway area after the cellphone of a missing Boston University freshman was discovered by a passerby in Richard D. Parker Memorial Victory Gardens about 4 p.m. yesterday.

Alex Goggin-Callahan, 19, was last seen at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday when he left his dormitory room in Kenmore square. Shortly after leaving, Goggin-Callahan placed an unanswered call to a female friend, but has not been heard from since. He did not leave a message.

School police, along with local police and fire crews, canines, a dive squad and several helicopters with infrared technology searched the area near the corner of Boylston Street and Park Drive, which includes the Muddy River. His parents flew to Boston from New Jersey and were standing by during the investigation.

Goggin-Callahan is described as 5’10”, 155 pounds, with brown eyes and short brown hair. He was reportedly wearing a gray sweatshirt, blue jeans and shoes with red laces when last seen.

Anyone with information should call Boston University Police at 617-353-2121 or Boston Police District 4 detectives at 617-343-4683.
