Democrats capture 3 seats in House

Michael Moran, a Brighton Democrat, appeared to be the clear winner last night in the race for the 18th Suffolk seat in the state House of Representatives.

Linda Dorcena Forry, also a Democrat, cruised to an unchallenged victory in the 12th Suffolk House district.

In the 18th Suffolk, which includes Allston-Brighton and portions of Brookline, Moran garnered about 70 percent of the vote, based on unofficial results with all Boston precincts reporting.

Unenrolled challenger Thomas O'Brien had more than 28 percent of the Boston total.

The winner replaces Representative Brian P. Golden, a three-term Democrat who stepped down in December after Governor Mitt Romney appointed him to the state Department of Telecommunications and Energy Commission.

In the 12th Suffolk, Dorcena Forry received almost 94 percent of the vote cast in a district that includes Boston's Mattapan neighborhood and portions of Milton, according to unofficial results, with all 14 Boston precincts reporting.

Dorcena Forry, the daughter of Haitian immigrants, will take over the seat vacated when House Speaker Thomas M. Finneran retired in December to become leader of the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council.

In Pittsfield, Christopher N. Speranzo, a Democrat, received more than twice as many votes as Republican Terry M. Kinnas in the race for the Third Berkshire House seat.

The city clerk reported there was about a 20 percent turnout.

Speranzo, the Pittsfield city solicitor, will replace Democrat Peter Larkin, who resigned in January after 14 years in office to become a lobbyist.
