Election today

Polls open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In Boston, voters go to the polls in the preliminary election for city races. A field of 15 candidates for the Boston City Council's four at-large seats will be narrowed to eight candidates who will compete in the November election.

In City Council District 9, voters will pick two of three candidates to advance to the November ballot.

In Somerville, Winchester, Woburn, and Medford, voters will choose between two candidates to fill a state Senate seat vacated by the death of state Senator Charles Shannon.
