Pair in Lawrence to vie for mayor

Mayor Michael J. Sullivan and Councilor Marcos Devers will face off in the Nov. 8 general election in Lawrence after voters chose the two from a field of four candidates in yesterday's preliminary election.

Sullivan got 54 percent of the vote, and Devers received 29 percent, according to unofficial totals last night.

Devers is seeking to become the first elected Latino mayor in Massachusetts. Sixty percent of the city's 72,000 residents are Latino. Sullivan, a white Republican, is seeking his second term.
