Boston tea parties to aid youngsters

Globe Santa has been dedicated to helping children at Christmas since 1956, and is always excited to work with local institutions making the same commitment.

This year, Globe Santa is joining forces with the Four Seasons Hotel Boston as it kicks off its annual Teddy Bear Tea series, which gives families a chance to enjoy afternoon tea while helping to provide cuddly companions to needy children.

Globe Santa's sleigh will be stationed outside the Four Seasons on Boylston Street on Saturday afternoon for the first of the hotel's Teddy Bear Tea services. The fashionable Back Bay landmark has been hosting the services to benefit Children's Hospital and present Christmas teddy bears to children for the past 18 years.

Each afternoon between Dec. 1 and Dec. 24, tea is served in the Bristol Lounge overlooking the Public Garden at 3 o'clock. Parents and their children bring a new teddy bear to contribute to the cause, and enjoy the scenic view while snacking on teddy bear-shaped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and other treats.

The donated cubs are displayed in the hotel lobby and delivered weekly by Santa Claus to children in and around Greater Boston.

This Saturday afternoon's special tea service will be held between 2 and 4:30, and added features in addition to Globe Santa's sleigh, will include Truffles the Bear, storytelling with the Tea Lady, live music from Four Guys in Tuxes, Build-A-Bear coupons, and a lunch buffet.

Those stopping by will also be able to make a donation to the Globe Santa Fund and have their picture taken with Santa Claus. And in making a contribution to Globe Santa, they will know that they have also helped other children enjoy their Christmas as well.

Reservations for Saturday's Teddy Bear Tea party are $40 per adult and $14 per child, and $10 of every adult ticket will benefit Children's Hospital.

The December tea service costs $24 for an adult and $14 per child -- $8 per child with the donation of a brand-new teddy bear -- and all proceeds from the children's tea service will be donated to Children's Hospital.

To reserve your seat in the Bristol Lounge call the Four Seasons Hotel at 617-351-2037.
