WESTBOROUGH --State Police reopened Route 9 to traffic around 1 p.m. after a hazardous materials team discovered that syringes, which are used to inject radioactive dye to test arteries, were empty. A pickup spilled the medical waste when it overturned in the eastbound lanes at about 10:45 a.m. near Lyman Street. As a precaution, police shut down the eastbound lanes.
The driver of the truck was transported to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester with minor injuries, the fire department said.![]()
