Red Sox purchase contract of Harris

BOSTON --The Boston Red Sox purchased the contract of utilityman Willie Harris from Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday.

Outfielder Adam Stern was optioned to Pawtucket to make room for Harris.

The 27-year-old Harris has a career .242 average. He played for the World Series champion Chicago White Sox last season, batting .256 with one homer eight RBIs and 10 stolen bases in 56 games. He played in one game against Boston in the first round and two against Houston in the World Series, scoring the only run in Chicago's 1-0 Game 4 victory that completed a sweep of the Astros.

He was batting .161 with one homer, four RBIs and three stolen bases in 14 games for Pawtucket.

Stern batted .188 with one double and four RBIs in nine games with Boston. He was pressed into regular duty when Coco Crisp was injured.
