Democratic gubernatorial candidate Deval L. Patrick's role as a director of Ameriquest Mortgage's holding company came under fire yesterday when two major unions, one of which supports his chief Democratic rival, demanded to know whether he lobbied fellow board members to reduce their salaries to avert the layoffs of up to 90 of its Massachusetts workers.
