Bonnie Eastabrook
Ages: 49
Old hometown: Marlborough
New hometown: Brooksville, Fla.
As a sergeant in the National Guard, she worked in an armory where the heating failed half the time. In Florida, she staffs a parking booth overlooking a beach on the Gulf of Mexico.
Bonnie Eastabrook says, ''The biggest reason was to get out of the winter. For the last few years, with the snow up in Marlborough, it was pretty rough. It affected the joints, so I moved to Florida. And the housing was cheaper: got a brand new manufactured home on a golf course. We got a lot more for our money. I work at the beach, and I'm having a ball! At the armory in Framingham, most of the winter was very cold, and you were outside a lot. . . . I had to get the vehicles and trucks ready. . . . The cold would enter my joints. And as soon as I moved down here, it all went right away. It does good for arthritis, this Florida weather. Winter, it was just a hassle . . . you get cabin fever. I don't ski anymore, I don't go sledding . . . down here, you're so active . . . the only stickler is the hurricanes. I've loved it ever since I've been here. It took me a month [to adjust], that's all." ![]()
