The following is from Globe editor Martin Baron:
Ron Borges has been suspended for two months without pay because he plagiarized from a reporter at another news organization in a notes column published in Sundays Sports section. He also has been prohibited from making broadcast appearances during the next two months.
The Globe does not tolerate plagiarism.
The discipline in this case, which is effective immediately, takes into account the severity of the offense and the circumstances surrounding it. Sports writers nationwide use a system for exchanging information for notes columns, and that system was the source of material for the column by Borges. The material had appeared in a story previously published in the News Tribune of Tacoma, Wash.
Extensive passages written by the Tacoma reporter were used verbatim in the column by Borges, and that is prohibited.![]()
