Police seek missing Pa. man

Boston police were searching yesterday for a man who disappeared early Saturday while in town visiting relatives. Timothy McGuire, 24, from Pennsylvania, was last seen at a relative's home in West Roxbury at about 1 a.m. Saturday, police said. McGuire, a 5-foot-11, 150-pound white male with brown hair and a beard, was last seen wearing a blue plaid jacket, a white T-shirt, and tan corduroy pants. Police said they were particularly concerned because McGuire suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and may not be taking his medication. Anyone with information regarding McGuire is asked to call 617-343-4566.

No houses were destroyed, and there were no known injuries, officials said.

MANCHESTER, N.H.

No charges filed in accident
An 81-year-old woman who hit a 7-year-old boy riding a scooter and dragged him beneath her car last September will not face charges in the accident. Last week, Hillsborough County prosecutors said Magella Houle did not have enough time to react when Thomas "T.J." DeFrancesco rode his scooter into the road in front of her, and there was no criminal negligence on her part. The boy sustained serious injuries to his face and head. His mother says he faces several surgeries to repair his skull. DeFrancesco was told he can't play Little League baseball this spring. But as consolation, he will throw out the first pitch at the New Hampshire Fisher Cats' opening home game on Thursday. (AP)

Town votes new offender limits
Voters at Town Meeting have voted to bar convicted child molesters from living within 2,500 feet of schools and other places where children congregate. It would bar registered sex offenders who molested a child under 16 from living within 2,500 feet of a school, day-care center, park, or playground. Offenders living within the restricted areas wouldn't have to move. Police say they now have to figure out where sex offenders can live. (AP)

Power plant clears safety review
Federal regulators have found no outstanding safety issues at Vermont Yankee, giving the nuclear power plant a key approval in its bid to extend operation for an additional 20 years. In the draft report, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission listed six areas that need further documentation from Entergy Nuclear, the reactor's parent company, including drawings for a number of safety systems. The report will be complete in August, along with a report on the environmental impact of extending the plant's operating license. Citizen groups have 30 days to challenge the findings. (AP)
