State grants help three schools cope with effects of violence

Officials at Edwards Middle School in Charlestown, one of three Boston public schools recognized last month by the Legislature for "trauma-sensitive" student programs, estimate that 80 percent of its 450 students in grades 6 through 8 are regularly exposed to violence .
