Here are unofficial results of the special election held Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, in the 5th Congressional District of Massachusetts. The winner, Niki Tsongas of Lowell, will fill the seat vacated when US Rep. Martin T. Meehan, who had held it for 14 years, announced in March that he was resigning to become chancellor of the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.
