WEYMOUTH - The Tri-Town South Development Corporation will schedule a meeting with the Abington Board of Selectmen to explain a proposal to extend the life span of the quasi-government agency.
Thomas Corbett, vice chairman of the Abington selectmen, said that he expected the meeting would occur on Jan. 14. Tri-Town, however, already had scheduled a public hearing for that day to discuss a zoning survey for the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station, the corporation's representatives said.
Tri-Town, working with private companies, plans to develop the former air station with commercial space and residential uses. The corporation has stated it will need to extend its life span by 35 years to fund the project.
