MBTA to make WiFi services available on commuter rail line
BOSTON --Riders on the Worcester/Framingham commuter rail line could have access to WiFi services as early as this week.
The MBTA is ready to launch a test program that would let commuters user laptop computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices to access the Internet during their rides to and from South Station.
Lieutenant Gov. Timothy Murray said the program is a first step toward improving Internet access throughout the commuter rail system.
Murray said the program will help improve productivity.
The program is set to begin this week, with at least one coach on each train enabled with a wireless router. Other commuter rail lines may also have WiFi access from time to time.
