Six Flags ordered to stop work on new roller coaster

AGAWAM, Mass.—Agawam's building inspector has ordered Six Flags New England to stop work on its new $7 million indoor roller coaster.

Town officials say the park started construction before getting a building permit and before it received permission last week to exceed the area's 45-foot height limit.

The 70-foot building will house the "Dark Knight" coaster, which will have a Batman theme and operate almost entirely in the dark.

A Six Flags spokeswoman says they hope to have it running by Memorial Day weekend.

She said they are working closely with Agawam officials and will meet March 5 with state public safety officials to review the project.
