BROCKTON, Mass.—An 18-year-old Brockton man has been ordered held on $1,000,000 bail in connection with the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old.

Police say Oliver Baptiste -- a sophomore at Brockton High School -- was shot in the head late Tuesday afternoon when a friend's gun went off.

Baptiste was pronounced dead about an hour after the shooting that happened on Battles Farm Road.

William Suarez has been charged with manslaughter and illegal possession of a firearm.

The shooting took place about an hour after Gov. Deval Patrick came to Brockton to laud local and state police for a surge of officers that had prevented any shootings since mid-February.

There have been four homicides since the beginning of the year in Brockton.
