2 hurt, several businesses damaged in blaze
WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. --Officials are investigating a blaze that injured two automotive workers and caused extensive damage to five businesses in West Springfield.
The men were working on a car at Spartan Brake and Muffler Thursday when some type of explosion occurred.
Flames spread quickly to the other businesses in the building, including a deli and martial arts academy.
Firefighters from Springfield, Agawam and Holyoke were called in to help battle the blaze, which forced the closing of a major road on the first day of the four-day Home Show at nearby Eastern States Exposition.
One of the injured men, George Katsoulis, was listed in critical condition at Baystate Medical Center. The name and condition of the other man wasn't known.
