Two utility workers hurt in flash fire

BOSTON --Two NStar workers are recovering from injuries following a manhole fire near Downtown Crossing in Boston.

NStar spokeswoman Caroline Allen said the workers were doing maintenance work in the manhole at Otis and Summer Streets early Friday morning when a suspected cable failure triggered the flash fire.

Allen said one of the workers was treated at Massachusetts General Hospital and later released. She said the second man sustained minor burns and was being held for observation at the hospital.

The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.
