MANSFIELD, Mass.—Mansfield police have fatally shot one of two men suspected in a bank robbery, and arrested the second man.

The shooting late Thursday afternoon was in a residential neighborhood about a mile from the bank.

Bristol District Attorney's spokesman Gregg Miliote said witnesses to the robbery gave police information about the men and the car. Officers stopped them on School Street, and shot one of the men after he got out of the car.

Police Chief Arthur O'Neill told reporters at a news conference the man confronted the officers "in a threatening manner" and appeared to reach for a weapon after they repeatedly asked him to stop.

Miliote said state police assigned to the district attorney's office are investigating.
