BOSTON—A coalition of men's groups has collected more than 60 boxes of supplies for Boston area women's shelters.

About 50 men fanned out at drug stores, grocery stores and hardware stores in Boston, Cambridge and Somerville on Saturday to ask customers going into those stores to buy a few extra items to donate to the shelters.

The drive was coordinated by the local chapter of the National Organization for Men Against Sexism.

Co-chairman Matt Meyer says the men collected personal hygiene items like toothbrushes and shampoo as well as toilet paper, diapers and even books.

The supplies will be donated to the Elizabeth Stone House, Respond, Renewal House, Transition House and the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence.
