Girl paralyzed by stray bullet views apology from shooter

BOSTON—A young girl paralyzed by a stray bullet five years ago says she hopes a videotaped apology by her shooter prompts others to turn away from violence.

Kai Leigh Harriott and her mother watched the tape made in prison by Anthony Warren. The tape was played during an event Wednesday to declare May as Boston's Peace Month.

Warren thanked Kai Leigh and her family for the opportunity to "apologize to my community."

Kai Leigh was 3 when she was shot in 2003. The bullet severed her spine and left her paralyzed from the waist down.

Police say Warren fired the shots during an argument with the girl's neighbors. He was sentenced to 13 to 15 years in prison.

During his 2006 plea hearing, Kai Leigh told Warren that what he did to her was wrong, but that she forgave him.
