Gas service fully restored after water main break
BOSTON—Gas service has been fully restored in downtown Boston nearly a week after gas lines were flooded by a water main break.
More than 400 National Grid customers lost service after the break last Saturday. Affected customers included downtown residents, restaurants and businesses. National Grid crews have gradually restored service, with the final customers coming back on Friday morning.
Crews had to pump 70,000 gallons from 13 miles of gas lines under the North End, the Financial District and the Faneuil Hall area.
National Grid is seeking repayment of nearly $5 million from the Boston Sewer and Water Commission.
It says most of their costs were for work crews brought in from all over the region and for specialized pumping equipment.![]()
