WORCESTER, Mass.—Prosecutors have named a man described as a "person of interest" in the unsolved murders of several women who had been prostitutes in Worcester.

Alex Scesny, a 38-year-old man from the central Massachusetts town of Berlin, is currently being held on an unrelated rape charge. The Telegram & Gazette of Worcester, citing court records, reports that Scesny has also been linked by DNA to the 1996 killing of a prostitute from Fitchburg.

A spokesman for the Worcester District Attorney's office, Tim Connolly, confirmed that Scesny is considered a person of interest in the deaths of several women who investigators believe may have been the victims of a serial killer.

The remains of two of the women were found in 2003 on the grounds of a private school in Marlborough. The skeletal remains of another woman were found in nearby Hudson in 2004.

Another body, identified as that of Wendy Morello, 40, was found in 2004 in a trash container in a wooded area of York, Maine.
